Adult content creators: Mym or OnlyFans?

 

Despite its English-sounding name, Mym (Meet Your Model) is a 100% French networking platform. Since 2018, it has offered content creators the chance to monetize their audience through direct content sales or subscription models. Some might ask, "Doesn't that sound like OnlyFans?" Well, yes and no. That is exactly what we are going to explore in this article!

 

Mym: Who is it for?

Mym attracts two types of users. It appeals to content creators with diverse profiles, such as models, adult performers, athletes, and influencers who view Mym as a source of direct income. It also attracts internet users (who typically become subscribers) looking for exclusive content. Although the platform has always aimed to build a broad international audience, Mym is best known in major French-speaking countries; particularly France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Canada, though it is also popular among Francophiles living in Germany. Its target audience? People seeking personalized interactions and direct connections with creators.

 

Where does its success come from?

Mym’s success is no secret, as many competing platforms have built their own success on the same business strategy. Mym appeals to users because the barrier to entry is low, allowing creators to generate recurring revenue without relying on brands or advertising, all while maintaining full control over their pricing, content, and schedules. Although Mym has always positioned itself as a platform that promotes all types of content (without being confined to a specific genre) a significant portion of its revenue comes from the adult entertainment industry. This is another trait Mym shares with OnlyFans, often cited as its direct rival.

 

Mym: Which platforms are giving it a run for its money?

As you might expect, Mym operates in a highly competitive market. In France, its main rivals include sites such as OnlyFans (the undisputed market leader), Fanvue (a direct competitor and pioneer in integrating AI into adult content), Patreon (historically aimed at artists and podcasters, but also operating on a subscription model), Ko-fi and Buy Me a Coffee (more flexible alternatives allowing fans to support creators via donations or "tips"), and Discord (a community communication tool whose subscription features (specifically "server subscriptions") make it an indirect competitor).

I would also add Tinder to this list of competitors. Why? I view Mym as a direct competitor to Tinder. It is true that Mym does not offer romantic relationships. However, it targets and captures the same audience within the "paid" or "transactional" dating niche. Let me explain: while Tinder is a tool for social and romantic connections, Mym enables direct monetization. I see a competitive overlap here because many users; increasingly weary of the drawn-out, uncertain "seduction games" found on traditional apps are turning to Mym for more direct, fee-based interactions. Thus, Mym does not challenge Tinder (or similar apps) in the realm of "dating" per se, but rather competes for the attention and spending of single male users by offering a less ambiguous economic and emotional alternative.

 

Mym or OnlyFans?

While OnlyFans dominates the global market, Mym has established itself as a solid European alternative that is particularly attractive to certain types of creators. Their business models are nearly identical, both taking a commission on creators' earnings. As mentioned earlier in this article, although both platforms host a variety of content, their primary source of revenue and popularity remains adult entertainment.

Given the competitive nature of these platforms, I believe content creators can benefit significantly from not putting all their eggs in one basket. Being active on both OnlyFans and Mym allows you to maximize your audience reach. While Mym attracts a primarily French-speaking audience, if you have a working knowledge of English (you don’t need to be bilingual), a presence on OnlyFans will help you reach a much larger global audience. You can even do the reverse: leverage OnlyFans' popularity and massive user base to steer your French-speaking community toward a more personalized experience on Mym, within a fully French-speaking cultural and linguistic environment. Furthermore, being on both platforms simultaneously allows you to diversify your income streams. It also ensures business continuity on one platform should you encounter technical issues, changes in content policy, or a ban on the other.

Mym is designed to help fans discover you via its search engine; allowing users to search for creators by keyword or category, or browse trending content, all without ever leaving the platform. OnlyFans, on the other hand, requires you to find your own fans (on Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok) and drive them to your link. Financially, Mym can be more profitable for subscription-based revenue (since its commission on this is only 10%), but OnlyFans remains more attractive for tips (a 20% commission, compared to 25% on Mym).

My advice: If you are an online adult content creator, the choice between OnlyFans and Mym shouldn't be an either-or decision; testing both based on your audience and goals is certainly the best strategy.
