What is the difference between a courtesan and an escort?

 

What is a courtesan? Isn’t it simply another word of saying escort girl ? Or are there any fundamental differences between both two names?  

 

A definition of a courtesan

The word courtesan appears in the 16th century in France and is said in French: “Courtisane”. At the time, it literally designated "woman of the court" which is a mock-use euphemism to characterize in a more direct term: a prostitute.

Some will argue that all the different terms surrounding the oldest profession in the world have to do with rehumanizing the sex workers by using more flattering verbiage and therefore, will consider the word courtesan at the same level as the term escort girl. They will also see it as a process of differentiation between all of the types of available offerings out there.

 

The differences between a courtesan and an escort girl

With this in mind, what is the difference between an escort girl and a courtesan? I believe there is a crucial differentiation to be made between a courtesan and an escort girl as the courtesan provides an extra step up on the continuum of quality.

Although a few of them are independent escorts, most escort girls work for agencies, have less experience in the industry and probably are not quite as skilled, educated and cultured as a courtesan would be. Most courtesans on the other hand are 100% independent ladies (courtesan exclusively work for themselves) with such exceptional service (a service of astonishing naturalness and class and an attitude that gives you the impression that she has known you forever) and beauty (these ladies are often very natural and know how to enhance this natural beauty so that it combines with their charisma, their confidence and their charm), that they command a jaw dropping rate (a courtesan has very high hourly rates not because she is beautiful, but mainly because she is intelligent, cultured, highly educated – many holding a Master Degree or a Ph.D. -, and know how to show it to you while knowing how to make you feel like the most precious person during this moment in their company), while guaranteeing ultimate discretion (you will never be able to detect a courtesan because she is imbued with excellent manners guided by codes of the art of living and the art of doing which make her as discreet and invisible as a chameleon).

Unlike escort girls, one does not become a courtesan because one decides to. Entry into this category is selective and is inseparable from the experience acquired over the years.

 

The courtesan: a cut above the rest

To deserve to be called that way, a courtesan must have climbed the ranks of the hierarchy of sex workers to get to the top and established a brand beyond reproach. She most likely will get the majority of her business from a very select group of gentlemen; the upper echelon of society and/or long-time customers who can still afford time spent with these magnificent ladies. A courtesan is the portrait of the woman that many men would like to marry but who remains inaccessible.

The clients of a courtesan are far more likely to be the type to fly-in their favorite lady for an extended stay, a weekend, or a vacation. Social events, dinners, plays, the opera, etc, are not unusual. Escort girls will provide services from one hour (or less), which is not the case with the courtesan. The escort girl will pose naked in her photos, the courtesan will only have photos dressed in an elegant way. It happens that the escort can barely hold a discussion, while the courtesan will always have the art of conversation and often, in your native language gentlemen! The courtesan will offer you an adventure, while the escort girl will offer you an experience, contrasting with the prostitute who will offer you a service. The prostitute, you will undoubtedly forget her. The best escort girls may have left you with beautiful memories. As for the courtesan, one encounter is enough for never ever forgetting her.

Unlike escort girls, a courtesan offers an experience of a different caliber, intelligently and naturally blurring the boundaries between a romantic affair and a transactional date.

 

No recognized standard

It must be understood that there is overlap between those two categories and because there are no officially recognized standards in the sex industry, many escort girls tend to proclaim themselves a courtesan even though they are very far from having reached this level (they can be excellent escort girls, but they generally do not have what it takes to be considered on the same level as a courtesan would be). Because these labels are mostly self-applied, please gentlemen beware (the same goes for all those escorts calling themselves “Luxury or High Class Escorts” as most of the time, they are far to be what they do promote)! However, a courtesan is a cut above the rest in the sex industry and if you can afford such a date, you will recognize a courtesan when you see/experience one. Trust me…
