Escorts: WhatsApp or Telegram? Which communication method should you choose?

 

Twenty years ago, when a client wanted to meet an escort, they would call the number listed in the ad. The timider would send a text message, while others would go directly to an erotic studio. Today, there are many ways to contact an escort. In this article, I focus primarily on WhatsApp and Telegram because (based on my observations and feedback over the past ten years in this industry) they are the two most widely used communication tools, not only by escorts but also by the men who visit them. Because discretion and safety are paramount in this industry, I will compare WhatsApp and Telegram, attempting to answer the question: Which application guarantees the most discretion for escorts or clients? This brief analysis will be followed by my personal opinion on the matter.

 

WhatsApp & Telegram: Similarities

WhatsApp and Telegram are two modern instant messaging apps that share many similarities: they allow for fast, seamless, and multimedia communication (text messages, emojis, stickers, GIFs, sending photos, videos, documents, contacts, location services, voice messages and audio/video calls, creating group chats, etc.) with a reasonable level of security.

Free, popular, and feature-rich, these two communication channels are available on iOS, Android, and computers (via desktop or web applications) and offer synchronized messages across devices (with a few minor differences for Telegram). Both apps claim to offer encryption for communications (although Telegram only activates it in secret chats, both protect data in transit from external interception). Finally, both WhatsApp and Telegram allow users to activate privacy settings (last seen, profile picture, online status) as well as the ability to block contacts.

 

WhatsApp versus Telegram and the discretion of exchanges: Differences

While Telegram and WhatsApp may seem almost interchangeable, significant differences separate them. In this section, I will focus solely on the main aspect that concerns us as escorts or clients of escorts: the confidentiality of exchanges.

The first and most essential difference lies in the handling of encryption. WhatsApp has opted for systematic and irrevocable end-to-end encryption. Every message, every call, every piece of media exchanged promises to be protected by a cryptographic lock that only the recipient can unlock. This security is active by default, without any action required, and is touted as a reassuringly reliable messaging service for users concerned about their privacy. Telegram, on the other hand, offers ordinary conversations that are encrypted only during their transit between the user and Telegram's servers. Only manually activating the "Secret Conversation" mode enables end-to-end encryption, as well as advanced features: message self-destruct, inability to forward messages, and screenshot notifications.

The second difference concerns data backup/storage. With WhatsApp, messages are stored locally, and backups rely on third-party cloud services (Google Drive or iCloud), which are often unencrypted by default (therefore, if you back up your messages this way, they automatically lose all confidentiality). With Telegram, regular messages are stored on its servers, allowing them to be accessed identically on all connected devices without the need for external backups. This seamless experience may be appealing, but it requires trust in the developer, who technically holds the keys to the data.

So, which of these two applications guarantees greater privacy in communications?

Although WhatsApp claims to lock every chat, from the moment the app is installed, Telegram seems to surpass WhatsApp for highly confidential exchanges. Indeed, thanks to its "secret conversations" mode, Telegram offers timed self-destruction, no cloud storage, and even renewed encryption key protection with each session.

Despite these compelling features, if I were an escort or a client of escorts, I wouldn't use either of these instant messaging services.

 

WhatsApp & Telegram: Why I would choose to abstain?

I'm not a technophobe, far from it. But when it comes to an activity I'd like to keep as private as possible, I would opt for the most discreet measures possible. If I were an independent escort or an escort client, I wouldn't communicate via WhatsApp, Telegram, or any other instant messaging service, even though they offer free access, convenience, speed, and a certain spontaneity.

What makes me hesitant about using WhatsApp as an escort or escort client is the systematic collection of metadata. While lacking the text content of the messages, this metadata paints a precise picture of our relationship habits, schedules, movements, and even our emotional state. I find this collection all the more concerning because it feeds the servers of Meta, a digital empire whose business model relies on intimate knowledge of human behavior. Yes, WhatsApp requires a valid phone number, and it's true that it's reassuring to be able to communicate with someone whose phone number you know. For both the client and the escort, this is a reassuring aspect because in Switzerland, behind every phone number is a verified person's identity. However, WhatsApp has repeatedly demonstrated its surveillance and silent intrusion into our actions, without our informed consent. Indeed, the end-to-end encryption promised by WhatsApp protects the text, but not the circumstances of the exchange. This means that, as an escort or client, the content of your messages cannot be read, but information characterizing those messages can (such as who you are sending the message to (the recipient's phone number or username), the precise date and time you sent it, the IP address from which you are sent (i.e., the country, city, or even the specific location), the size of the message (which can indicate whether it contains a simple sentence or a large attachment), the duration of a voice or video call, and the frequency of your exchanges with that contact).

If I were to use WhatsApp, this reality would leave me no choice but to use a VPN to mask my metadata and obscure the circumstances of the exchange.

My skepticism is equally strong regarding Telegram, which allows you to contact and be contacted without knowing the other person's number. A pseudonym is all that's needed. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the phone number is often linked to a SIM card and a verified identity. In case of a problem, conflict, offense, or crime, a pseudonym makes legal investigations more difficult because it's less straightforward to trace the real user behind the account. Furthermore, it's clear to me that Telegram encourages a form of anonymity that can facilitate the proliferation of fraud attempts because it's easier for a scammer to contact victims this way without leaving any tangible trace. For example, as an escort, what do you do after giving your full address to a client who contacted you via Telegram (displaying only their pseudonym) and who, without even giving notice, didn't show up for the appointment? Not only do they know where to find you (you've jeopardized your safety by giving your contact information to an anonymous user), but you also can't even add this timewaster to your blacklist since you don't have their phone number. As a client, you've just made a prepayment by bank transfer for an outcall appointment at your hotel the next day. The woman contacted you via Telegram. You only know her username. You've been waiting for almost 20 minutes, and she still hasn't arrived… An hour later, still no word and she's stopped responding on Telegram. Not only have you lost money but time and temper also. These concrete examples illustrate that while using a username on Telegram protects your phone number from prying eyes, it introduces a level of anonymity that can be exploited by malicious individuals (both escorts and their clients).

 

Escorts and their clients: Should you go back to basics?

Dear readers, why not returning to the roots and favor SMS and phone calls over WhatsApp and Telegram? Goodbye to persistent metadata and the intrusive collection of commercial data!

An (unmasked) phone call, by its synchronous and vocal nature, conveys emotional nuances (tone of voice, hesitations, laughter) and demands real presence, undivided attention that the incessant notifications of instant messaging no longer allow. As for SMS, more understated, it doesn't adorn itself with the artifice of apps and offers a more straightforward communication, more respectful of the other person's time, and above all, less subject to the algorithmic exploitation of your interactions.

So yes, SMS doesn't allow the sending of large files, and international calls remain expensive. However, gentlemen, this is often the price to pay to maximize the discretion of your encounters with an escort, and for you, escorts, to remain as anonymous as possible by protecting your image and cultivating your exclusivity.

For sensitive, intimate, or occasional exchanges, or simply to preserve a space of freedom outside of instant messaging platforms, for me, the benefits of phone calls and text messages are undeniable.
